Anyone who is looking to dedicate themselves to upholding the law (lawyer, judge, or police officer) must first apply themselves to the study of criminal justice. This is a four year degree that will teach you the laws that must be upheld concerning any and all criminal behavior.

Anyone who wishes to become a police officer must study criminal justice. However, when it comes to lawyers it only applies to those who are looking to defend or prosecute criminals. This means that any other type of lawyers (like divorce lawyers and civil lawyers) do not have to bother with this study because they are not dealing with any type of criminals.

Police officers learn criminal justice because they are forced to deal with criminals all the time in their line of work. Because of this they need to understand what things they can do in order to apprehend a suspect and what things they must avoid. Criminal justice will teach them not only how to properly apprehend any suspect – but also how to find any and all evidence. Sometimes they are forced to obtain a search warrant in order to look for evidence in someone’s home or business.

It is important that they learn the proper way to follow all of the guidelines that have been set up or else they can be reprimanded and may mess up the whole case. For example: If a police officer were to catch the right criminal – but had apprehended them or any evidence wrongfully then that criminal would be released.
