In life we can make choices that are life changing. One of the most drastic and most dramatic life changes that we can make is entering into a marriage. There is a reason that everyone is instructed to think well and hard before committing themselves to another person. There are two different processes that can be used when trying to leave a marriage. Divorce and divorce annulment.

To divorce someone is to break apart a marriage that you have shared with someone no matter how long or short it has been. A divorce annulment is a legal order that states that the marriage between two people never happened. Divorce is more common than annulments because there are many restrictions.
A person can only annul their marriage if:

1. The spouses are by chance related to one another. Whether it be uncle and nice, aunt and nephew, etc.
2. You were married – but admit that you were not of sound mind at the time to make the decision. For example: some people need to annul their marriage after entering into it when they were drunk.
3. You married before you were 16.
4. You were forced to enter into the marriage.
5. Your spouse or you entered the marriage under a false name.
6. You learned that your spouse is already married to another person at the time of the marriage.

Most people believe that if they have only been married a short time (less than a year) and they realized during that time that they made the wrong decision to enter into a marriage that they can get it annulled. This is not a valid reason for anyone. Those who are looking to end a marriage for this or any other reason that is not listed must end their marriage through a legal divorce.
